Carbon Capture Innovations
To support evolving industry needs, the NCCC
has expanded infrastructure to enable carbon
capture testing for natural gas power plants and
industrial facilities. A dedicated natural gas-fired
boiler supplies flue gas representative of realworld operations.
Technologies tested at the NCCC include
solvents, membranes, sorbents, enzymes,
hybrids and cryogenic systems, with more than
15 technologies advancing toward large-scale
demonstration.
More than 15 technologies ready
for 10 MW+ demonstration
The NCCC provides testing and evaluation at
Alabama Power’s Plant Gaston, utilizing flue gas
from a dedicated natural gas boiler system, which
provides flexible, low-contaminant streams of
4-10% CO2. CO2 concentrations can be adjusted
to simulate industrial-source and coal-relevant
testing conditions.
The center’s scale enables detailed evaluation of
performance, reliability, safety and maintenance
requirements — at significantly lower cost and
lower risk than full commercial demonstrations.
